Dancerbation is a work birthed from a night dream, built around Robert Harbin's original stage illusion The Zig Zag Girl. It addresses the erotic gesture in both its overt and unconscious forms, and at the patriarchal hand that has too long directed it.

Set to a percussive, metallic score, Nishikawa's sculptural theatre places a collective of feminine artists inside the magician's act and quietly takes it apart. Here, that arrangement is loosened through dance, with choreography that unfolds as structured improvisation and lets ritual slip its edges.

The costumes were designed and hand painted, hallucinatory, in opposition to the sequinned convention so usual with such stage illusions.

Performed twice on the same evening with a group hypnotherapy session conducted beforehand.
